Eric Dane has died at the age of 53. He rose to fame playing Dr. Mark Sloan, known to fans as “McSteamy,” on ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ and later as Cal Jacobs on ‘Euphoria.’
According to his family’s statement, Dane passed away on February 19. "With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS. He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”
In 2025, Dane revealed that he was living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. After his diagnosis, he “became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight.”
ALS is a degenerative disease that causes individuals to lose the use of their limbs gradually. The condition became known worldwide thanks to a famous sufferer, the late British scientist Stephen Hawking.
