A nationwide chocolate recall has been issued in the United States due to a life-threatening allergen contamination.
The recall, issued on April 23 by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), affects multiple products from French Broad Chocolates PBC, based in Asheville, North Carolina. The company discovered a labeling error on April 20 when staff noticed that packaging inserts in certain boxes had mislabeled their walnut fudge bonbons.
“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to walnuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the FDA stated.
The affected products include the "Bette's Bake Sale Bonbon Collection" in three sizes: six-piece, 12-piece, and 24-piece boxes bearing batch numbers 260414 and 260417. These items were sold between April 14 and April 20 through French Broad Chocolates' physical stores in Asheville and their online store, which ships to 41 states across the country.
