The United States is riddled with contaminated sites. Unsurprisingly, these places are often located in some of the country's most impoverished areas. The Superfund program was created to help the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) identify toxic sites and allocate adequate funding to clean them up.
The initiative currently has over 1,300 locations listed on its website, a terrifying number that does not take into account all the contaminated sites that still need attention.
