For decades, personality has been split into introverts, who recharge alone, extroverts, who gain energy from socializing, and ambiverts, who fall somewhere in between. But a new term is shaking up this spectrum: the “otrovert.”
Coined by psychiatrist Rami Kaminski in 2023, an otrovert doesn’t look inward like an introvert or outward like an extrovert; instead, they orient themselves differently from those around them. This unique temperament is something Kaminski has observed in both his patients and himself, and he explores it further in his 2025 book 'The Gift of Not Belonging.'
