We're all prone to heartburn on occasion. It's that irritating sensation in your throat and stomach often triggered by eating a spicy meal or drinking alcohol. Experiencing heartburn once in a while is no big deal. But if it happens more frequently, it can be a symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), or acid reflux.

Symptoms of acid reflux include a burning chest pain that moves up toward your throat, a feeling that food is coming back into your mouth, a bitter or sour taste at the back of your throat, and pain that gets worse when you bend over or lie down, typically at night.

Acid reflux can be caused by a number of factors. Smoking and overeating are known to promote the condition. Being overweight or obese doesn't help, and stress and anxiety can also trigger an episode. But there are certain foods and beverages that can also induce acid reflux and heartburn. So, what should you avoid if you tend to suffer from this debilitating condition?

To find out, click on and learn more about reflux-triggering meals, snacks, and drinks that can fan the flames.
