The Bayeux Tapestry is one of the most important medieval works of art in the world. Created in the 1070s, it chronicles the story of the Norman Conquests when William I defeated King Harold II at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, one of the most famous military engagements in English history.
The tapestry's home is the French town of Bayeux. But from September 2026, this precious masterpiece of embroidery will be on display at the British Museum in London.
