Geology

Pamukkale is a geological marvel that has captivated travelers for thousands of years. Known locally as the "Cotton Castle," this surreal landscape features tiered pools of turquoise water held in place by gleaming white limestone.

It appears as a massive, snow-covered mountain rising from the green river valley of southwestern Turkey. The white slopes are actually solid rock, formed by thousands of years of mineral-rich water flowing down the hillside. While the ancient Romans built a city here to enjoy the springs, the real star of the show is the geology itself.

In this gallery, we take a look at the mesmerizing beauty and the wonders of this natural spring. Curious? Click to know more.
