The conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel has triggered the worst energy crisis the world has ever faced, Fatih Birol, the Head of the International Energy Agency (IEA), said on April 21.
"This is indeed the biggest crisis in history," Birol told France Inter radio in an interview broadcast. Earlier this month, he also said the current global energy crisis is worse than those in 1973, 1979, and 2022 combined.
The escalating conflict has sent shockwaves through the global economy. A severe disruption in the Strait of Hormuz has choked off critical supplies of oil, natural gas, and other important resources.
A small group of nations is experiencing a significant financial windfall as desperate buyers seek alternative fuel sources. On the other hand, countries that rely heavily on imported resources are facing soaring inflation, critical fuel shortages, and widespread commercial panic.
