When we discuss climate change, we often look at the total pollution a country produces. However, looking at carbon dioxide emissions per person offers a much clearer picture of how daily life and local industries impact the planet.
This measurement, known as emissions per capita, was calculated by Our World in Data to get the average amount of CO2 each resident was responsible for in 2024. Some nations produce nearly ten times more carbon per resident than others due to their reliance on fossil fuels, heavy manufacturing, or high levels of personal consumption.
