Art history

Art has always been contentious, no matter the era or the continent. In Europe, especially during the Renaissance era (roughly the 14th to 17th centuries), an explosion of artistic and scientific exploration pushed people to explore many different subjects that others hadn’t dabbled in before. But while art in particular rose in dominance as many of history’s greats created the classics, the Catholic Church was not so keen on the display of artistic expression across the Christian world. And so they banned a number of paintings for various reasons.
