Across much of the world, city life is rapidly expanding, but millions of people still live in villages, farming districts, mountain communities, and remote islands. Indeed, approximately 43% of the global population lives rurally, which translates to around 3.5 billion people.
Most of these countries are located in Africa and Oceania, where poverty pushes people to live outside of urban areas. Some other factors include geography and a nation’s incredibly rugged terrain, which makes moving to urban areas unfeasible.
