The United States and the United Kingdom have enjoyed a unique cultural and political bond since the late 1930s. This so-called Special Relationship has served as the primary cornerstone of Western security for nearly 90 years, with both nations sharing intelligence cooperation and providing one another with a nuclear and defense axis.
The alliance also affords diplomatic and geopolitical leverage, and facilitates favorable trade negotiations between the two countries. Lately, however, relations between London and Washington have become strained, with some analysts and policymakers suggesting the once watertight bond between the US and the UK requires a strategic reset.
