Long before modern skylines and megacities dominated the planet, the medieval world already contained enormous urban centers filled with people from all walks of life. Some of them grew around imperial courts, while others prospered thanks to trade routes and maritime power.
These cities reached their greatest influence under very different empires and cultures, and some still stand to this day. Indeed, their estimated populations were staggering compared to some modern-day towns, with residents counting in the hundreds of thousands.
