No country in the world has achieved full legal equality between women and men. Indeed, women globally hold only 64% of the legal rights that men do. Gender is a contentious issue across many nations, where girls and adult women must constantly vie for recognition, equality, and justice.
Recently, Georgetown University released the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Index, which measures how women across 181 nations are included in society, protected by law, and kept safe in their homes and communities. The index uses 13 indicators to determine how well a nation is faring for women’s rights.
