Before planning a European road trip, knowing where driving risks peak can make all the difference. A study by Vignette Switzerland, a seller of Swiss e-vignettes for digital toll passes, ranks continental traffic hazards using 2025 mortality statistics from the European Transport Safety Council’s Performance Index 2026 report.
To account for population differences, countries are evaluated by road deaths per million residents alongside their performance against the European Union (EU) benchmark of 43 deaths per million.
