Across some of the world’s most remote forests and islands, there are still Indigenous peoples who live with little or no sustained contact with wider society. They are often described as “uncontacted,” although many are aware that outsiders exist and have simply chosen to keep their distance. Their continued survival depends heavily on whether the rest of humanity is willing to respect one remarkably simple demand: to be left alone.
