Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, has spoken up about the ongoing estrangement between Prince William and Prince Harry, saying he refuses to take sides. The 9th Earl Spencer addressed his nephews’ relationship in a BBC interview that aired on September 20, this while promoting his new memoir, ‘Swan Song: Diana, My Sister.’
“I think there is a perception in the media that I am on Harry’s side,” Spencer said. “Well, I’m on my deceased sister’s sons’ side, both of them.” He added that he would be equally there for either brother if they needed him.
Spencer acknowledged that there are “a lot of reasons on both sides” for how their relationship reached this point, but said he does not know every detail and does not want to interfere. “I hope one day it’s resolved,” he said, adding that Diana would have wanted her sons to be happy together.
William and Harry reportedly remain estranged, despite recent signs of improving relations between Harry and their father, King Charles. The brothers were once extremely close, particularly after losing their mother when they were teenagers, but years of reported feuds, public allegations, and Harry’s departure from royal duties have driven them apart.
