Greek authorities have declared evacuation in 16 settlements of the island, as almost 200 firefighters try to extinguish the flames being funneled by strong winds. Wildfires are a common threat in Greece, but authorities have said they are getting bigger due to climate change.
Indeed, last year hundreds of people were forced to flee from the island of Kos, while the 2023 wildfires killed more than 20 people. And this is not only limited to Greece, as other parts of the world are experiencing devastating wildfires.
