There's a certain beauty to the raw mechanics of machinery that makes our world work. Whether the technology is old or new, there's a fascinating intricacy about the moving parts.
One of the most incredible examples of technological advancement in the 21st century was the launch of the Large Hadron Collider in 2008. It is widely considered to be one of the biggest science experiments in history. The US$8 billion machine fires out particles at the speed of light, causing them to collide and recreate an effect similar to the Big Bang. The purpose of the LHC was to discover the Higgs boson, or 'God Particle.' The theory was that this particular particle held the key to how everything in the universe acquires mass. The scientific team achieved their goal in 2012.
