The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on September 15 that a large storm system in the Atlantic now has a 90% chance of strengthening into a cyclone in the coming days. If it develops, it will be named Tropical Storm Gabrielle.
The disturbance, located between West Africa and the Windward Islands, is moving west-northwest at 10 to 15 mph (16 to 24 km/h). Meteorologists warn it could track toward the Caribbean, though it is still over 10 days away from the United States, if it reaches there at all.
The update comes during the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs through November 30. Experts are urging residents in hurricane-prone areas to stay alert, check supplies, and follow NHC updates.
