An enraged 2,000-pound (900-kg) bull bison seriously injured a tourist after tossing him about eight feet (around 2.44 meters) into the air at Yellowstone National Park's Bridge Bay Campground on July 11. The 65-year-old man was walking with his grandson when the bison, which had reportedly been charging through the campground, attacked.
The incident was captured by wildlife photographer Mike MacLeod, who described the animal as "agitated" and charging "anything and everything." Speaking to Cowboy State Daily, MacLeod said that he and other bystanders managed to scare the bison away before it could attack the man again.
Although Yellowstone officials continue to remind visitors to keep a safe distance from wildlife, MacLeod said those involved appeared to be following park guidelines when the attack occurred.
