A Thai tourist in his sixties, from Lopburi province, was killed by a wild bull elephant on February 2, this while walking near his tent at Khao Yai National Park in Thailand, marking the third known fatality linked to the same animal.
Authorities said the victim was grabbed, slammed to the ground, and trampled, suffering fatal injuries. His wife, who was with him at the time, managed to escape after park rangers chased the elephant away.
Officials are now weighing whether to relocate the elephant or attempt to change its behavior. According to Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, more than 220 people have been killed by wild elephants since 2012.
