It doesn't matter if you live in a tiny studio apartment or a huge mansion, the principles can be applied anywhere.

Personality types - The first step is to figure out which personality type, or "homebody", you are within Hirsch's system. Let's take a look at the four options!

Astaire: The Entertainer - The first homebody type is called Astaire, after the renowned dancer and actor Fred Astaire. It applies to people who are very social and outgoing.

Astaire: The Entertainer - If you thrive on interacting with people and love to play the host, this one is for you.

Entertainers are high-energy and extroverted so they need a space that reflects their bold personalities.

Astaire: The Entertainer - Bold statement colors that brighten up a room suit this personality type. If your budget doesn't extend to a full re-decoration, you can try to add a few new pieces like cushions, rugs, or curtains that add a pop of color.

Astaire: The Entertainer - It's a good idea to arrange furniture in a way that allows easy conversation and interaction.

If investing in new furniture isn't realistic or your space is limited, add a few large floor cushions that can act as additional seating around the couch.

Galileo: The Scientist -

The second homebody type is Galileo, the scientific personality. They are inquisitive and are interested in how things around them work.

Galileos enjoy interacting with others but really need their quiet space to think. A secluded study or reading corner is ideal for them.

In terms of aesthetics, these people usually enjoy simple structures and geometric shapes. They value designs that are orderly and functional, but that doesn't mean they can't be stylish!

The perfect home for a Galileo includes simple color schemes, symmetry, and lots of organizational tools. Drawer dividers, beds with pull-out storage spaces underneath, and rotating spice racks will really get them going!

Organization is most important in the home office or workspace. This area is extremely important to them and keeping it neat and tidy will ease their minds.

Nightingale: The Nurturer -

The Nightingale type is named after Florence Nightingale, widely considered to be the founder of modern nursing. They have strong nurturing instincts. They are sensitive to others and enjoy taking care of them.

This person might be strongly connected with nature and find comfort in having plants and organic materials in their home.

Muted colors, soft fabrics, and natural materials like wood, stone, and wicker will create a healing environment for them.

Cozy spaces are important, so piles of pillows and blankets are a must. These can also be great ways to elevate the decor, adding new colors and textures.

Natural light is highly valuable for these people, they won't thrive in a space with small windows or poor sun exposure.

They usually keep items that have sentimental value such as photos, gifts from loved ones, and objects collected while traveling. It's good to have ample shelving to display these.

Plato: The Philosopher - Naturally, the Plato homebody is the philosopher type. They're deep thinkers who enjoy stimulating conversations with others, but also need a great deal of time alone with their own thoughts.

A Plato type is interested in why things work, unlike the Galileo who wants to know how things work. They appreciate craftsmanship and handmade pieces.

They prefer uncluttered spaces but a few quality pieces will be key to the aesthetic.

They like to have views of nature (if possible) and enjoy solid natural elements like wood, stone, and iron in the home.

If they can't afford a home with a river view, exposed brick walls, and original wooden beams on the ceiling, then adding in a few pieces like a reclaimed wooden table or iron lanterns will do the trick.
