An astrological age usually lasts approximately 2,150 years. It changes when the Earth’s rotation moves into a new zodiac sign around the spring equinox.

We have just left the Age of Pisces and are entering the Age of Aquarius. There’s some debate about when the Age of Aquarius actually begins, but considering the chaos of change we experienced in 2020, many astrologers believe we shifted into Aquarius at the beginning of 2021.

The Age of Pisces - Astrologer Corina Crysler says that the last 2,000 years of the Age of Pisces was a period that shaped our belief system. If we look at the history of religion, that definitely seems to be the case!

A philosophical take - Another astrologer, Santokh Singh Khalsa, says that in the Age of Pisces, people needed someone or something to believe in. Once they found it, whether it be a religion, a career, or a political ideology, they attached themselves to it and allowed it to guide their lives.

Khalsa predicts that we will move away from the vertical hierarchies of power and form into an open network as a society. We will begin to accept ourselves as whole people, without the need to believe in something outside of ourselves.

The changes in 2020 -

In 2020, many structures of belief were dismantled. It was a year that caused many of us to question our values, our politics, and our way of life. This is a strong indicator that we were moving away from the Pisces influence and towards Aquarius.

In society, activated Aquarius energy encourages innovation in technology, but also compels us to consider issues of social injustice and our collective experiences.

As with all star signs, Aquarius also has a shadow side. It can also be aloof, restless, and impulsive. While Aquarians are great at starting things and coming up with new ideas, they’re not always great at finishing them.

1. Mercury in retrograde - In 2021, each of the air signs (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius) will experience a Mercury retrograde. Even if you know nothing about astrology, you probably know that things get messy when Mercury is in retrograde! It tends to be a period of disruption.

1. Mercury in retrograde: dates - The first 2021 retrograde occurred between January 20 and 30, and the others are from May 29 to June 22, and September 27 to October 18.

Astrologer Colin Bedell believes these periods should have an interesting impact on the communication in our lives. We may find opportunities to learn and understand each other better, particularly when it comes to voicing our emotions with loved ones. We may develop more insight about our experiences.

2. Focus on technology - The year 2020 already saw a shift in the traditional structures we relied on and a greater emphasis on technology. For example, millions of people lost the nine-to-five routine at the office and began to rely on technology to work and connect with others in a new way.

3. Economic disruption - There are some significant planetary transits this year that impact the major connective structures like banks and financial institutions. Historically, similar astrological events in the past have coincided with instances of economic strife.

3. Economic disruption: economic recession - An Aquarian Saturn brings tension to Taurean Uranus, which is generally indicative of financial loss. This occurred several times in 1929, the year the Great Depression began.

3. Economic disruption: a financially conservative year -

We’re all aware of the worldwide economic downturn that has been ongoing since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. It’s still unclear how long this will last, and what the long-term impact will be. Key dates to look out for this year are June 14 and December 24. Try to guard your assets this year, and particularly around those dates.

3. Economic disruption: eventual growth -

The upside to this period of economic disruption is that it leads to an era of rebuilding and restructuring, as we saw after the Great Depression. It’s a sign of change and future prosperity.

As mentioned earlier, dismantling antiquated structures is a big theme for this year and for the Age of Aquarius in general. It’s an opportunity for us to rebuild something better that we can all enjoy together.

The Age of Aquarius brings huge potential for progress and creating a more just and equal society for ourselves. It’s likely that we’ll see a rise in social programs and a greater emphasis on taking care of each other. However, it’s important to remember that we also have to work to make these things happen.

Even through the pain and suffering of 2020, we already began the process of breaking down the old and rebuilding the new. There is great potential for healing in 2021, but it's only the beginning of an age that will be defined by community and progress.
