Two children were among four people killed when a train hit a school bus in Belgium this May 26, the country's Deputy Prime Minister Maxime Prévot confirmed.
The “serious traffic accident” appeared to have happened near a level crossing at around 8 am local time in Buggenhout, a town in northern Belgium.
Belgian Justice Minister Annelies Verlinden said on X that a school bus was involved in the accident, and local media reported it was carrying students from a nearby special education school.
Since the mid-19th century, history has recorded some terrible train crashes. Whether due to brake failures, derailments, accidental fires, or human error, a rail wreck is a traumatic and very often fatal event.
