Police have released a man who was detained in connection with a deadly shooting at Brown University after investigators determined the evidence no longer supports his involvement, officials said. Providence Mayor Brett Smiley confirmed the release, while Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said authorities now believe the investigation is “pointing in a different direction.”
The shooting, which occurred on December 13 at the Ivy League campus in Providence, left two students dead and nine others injured.

Carried out increasingly by young men who also often suffer from serious mental health or substance abuse problems, these attacks continue to plague the country.
