A popular baby toy found in many households has been recalled after 32 reported choking incidents, US safety regulators said. The Yetonamr Pull String Teething Toy, sold as a Montessori-style sensory product and marketed as a way to improve babies’ sensory and motor skills, was recalled because its pull strings are smaller than permitted under federal safety standards.
In a recall notice issued January 22, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warned that the toy’s silicone strings can reach the back of a child’s throat and become lodged, posing a risk of serious choking, respiratory distress, and even death. Approximately 6,800 units of the toy are affected.
Indeed, some pretty questionable decisions have been made over the years when it comes to the development of children's toys. Surely everyone has the children's best interests (and the bottom line) at heart, but some products clearly just weren't thought through.
