Police in eastern France are urging motorists to stay alert after reports of seemingly “drunk” deer behaving erratically near rural roads. In a video shared by authorities in Saône-et-Loire on May 13, one deer can be seen running in circles, jumping wildly, and repeatedly falling to the ground.
According to police, animals can become intoxicated during warmer months after consuming fermented fruit, buds, or decaying plants. Officials warned that the unusual behavior may cause deer to move unpredictably into traffic, increasing the risk of accidents in wooded areas.
It may sound surprising, but humans are far from the only species to experience intoxication. From fermented fruit to naturally occurring psychoactive plants, animals around the world have long been known to seek out mind-altering substances. Want to know more?
