Unless you know a child or young person with developmental language disorder (DLD), you might not have heard of it. DLD is elusive; we do not know what causes it, and therefore it often goes undiscussed. However, this speech disorder, which is characterized by ongoing problems with understanding and/or using spoken language, can have a profound impact on a child's development and therefore quality of life.
