You feel like you're the one always initiating plans -

In every relationship, there will be give-and-take that fluctuates over time. But if you're always the one reaching out or making plans, then it could mean that they're less concerned with seeing you.

You feel nervous about using words like relationship and boyfriend/girlfriend -

You're worried that using a certain word in front of them will scare them off. That's probably your gut sensing you're more interested in them than they are in you.

You feel tired -

One-sided relationships can start to wear you down. This is because you're giving a lot and not getting a lot back.

You accommodate their suppressed level of intimacy -

Be attentive, because this one is a biggie. For example, early on, they may tell you that they have some sort of trouble with intimacy. Then, if they share something deeply personal, you might take that as a form of intimacy. Don't do that.

You start to second-guess your worth -

It can feel like a blow to your self-esteem when the other person doesn't make much effort in the relationship. Remember though: it isn't a reflection of your worth, but rather a decision your partner is choosing to make.

They aren't creating a "love map" -

A love map is how a significant other sees their person's inner world, meaning their hopes, dreams, desires, and fears. And if they're not trying to get to know those things about you, then you're definitely in a one-sided relationship.

They cancel plans a lot -

If they're super casual about dismissing plans with you, chances are you're more invested in them than they are in you.

They show little interest in your life outside of them -

In the beginning, this may mean that they don't show any interest in meeting your friends and family. In long-term relationships this can continue, or there's a lack of awareness of what's going on in your life.

They use work as a reason to distance you -

If they're often using work to avoid making definitive plans or to justify bailing at the last minute, then it's a one-sided situation.

You're always the one keeping the conversation going -

It's perfectly fine that not everyone is a great texter or a huge talker. But if there's been a noticeable shift in their responsiveness, then that's a red flag.

There's little talk of the future from their end -

The goal in most relationships is to have a future together. So if someone avoids talking about the future with you, it's generally because they're not that invested.

They often say one thing and do another -

For example, does your partner constantly say they love spending time with you, but spend most of their free time with friends? If their words don't match their actions, then it's one-sided.

You constantly have to adjust your plans to fit theirs -

You're probably often working around their schedule. They generally decide what you'll do together, where, and when. And they don't compromise when you try to do the same.

You’re the one who wants to work on things -

If you're the only one willing to talk through issues, then it's a definitive sign that you're on uneven terrain.

You make excuses for them -

It's understandable when someone is having a bad day, or have let you down in a small way. But if you're continuously making excuses for your partner’s behavior, then it's time to reevaluate your relationship.

Your priorities are different -

In a one-sided relationship, priorities around things like finances, free time, or how you show your appreciation for one another aren't even.

Sweet words are hard to come by -

If your partner isn’t actively being sweet, or commenting on something attractive about you, then you might be stuck in a one-sided deal.

Social situations are filled with minimal effort on their part -

This is especially noticeable when you both get invited to your friends' parties. They'll probably show up, but keep quiet and speak only when spoken to. It’s one-sided because they're not interested in getting to know anyone in your circle.

They keep you away from important people -

If they have friends or family members that they consider important, but keep you away from them, then that's a red flag.

Your partner is comfortable with a routine -

When you ask to change things up, they might grunt or protest. That's one of the signs of a one-sided relationship because they want things their way, without caring if you're happy or not.

You feel generally taken for granted -

Do you mostly cook and clean, only to get a monotone "thanks"? This is one of the key signs of a one-sided relationship, and a huge red flag.

You're the only one wanting change -

It takes two to tango, so if you're the only one wanting change, then you're dancing on your own.

You're always apologizing -

Even when you know you didn't do anything wrong. If you say sorry to keep peace, then that's a big red flag.

Your gestures aren't reciprocated -

When was the last time they did anything for you? If they haven't surprised you with a romantic dinner, or invited you to a concert, then that's a red flag right there.

You have to ask for favors or small things -

If you have to request every single gesture, or you notice that your partner isn’t doing the small things anymore, then you may have a problem.

They show no motivation to change -

You’re both into each other, you accept each other as you are, but you also improve for the other and for yourselves. If that's not the case, then your partner isn't that motivated to change.

You're walking on eggshells -

Does everything you say or do bring up a negative reaction? If so, then this negative behavior shows that they're not committed to you, or able to deal with your emotions.

One-sided openness -

You may find yourself opening up about your life. But does your partner do the same? If not, then that's another sign of a one-sided relationship.

You're no longer happy -

If you're no longer happy being by their side, then this is a huge sign of a one-sided relationship. It's definitely not a healthy situation to be in.
