Athletes who suffered serious injuries on the job
Clippers All-Star Paul George carried off with leg injury on Tuesday night
© Getty Images
When we think of professional sports, the image of a glamorous career often comes to mind. There is a lot of excitement, glory, and, in the case of many, money involved in pursuing a career as a professional athlete. One thing that we don't often consider, however, is the risk of injury.
While many athletes are lucky and do not sustain many injuries, if any, during their career, others don't fare so well. There are many professional athletes whose careers are blighted by recurring or serious injuries.
The Clippers' March 21 game against the Oklahoma City Thunder was destined for disaster. They lost 101-100 after their star shooting guard, Paul George, sustained a serious-looking knee injury. George's right leg collided with that of Luguentz Dort as they jumped for the ball and footage shows that his knee was dramatically hyperextended in the accident. He immediately fell to the ground and stayed there for several minutes, appearing to be in severe pain. When he tried to stand, he had to be helped off the court. Clippers coach Ty Lue says that they're still waiting for information about the severity of the injury while George undergoes exams.
Check out this gallery to find out which athletes suffered serious injuries on the job.
