At the end of 1938, the Nazi pogrom against the Jewish people in Germany began, and the rest is Holocaust history. Thousands of Jewish refugees fled the country as a result, but not all of them found a safe place to stay, nor were they welcomed across the pond (at least for a specific period of time). Countries like the United States and Canada played a role in the Allied victory of World War II, but the early days of the conflict, which led to the first wave of refugees, were not easy for those seeking asylum stateside.
