Russia’s army has initiated three-day nuclear weapons drills this May 19, according to the Russian defense ministry. The exercises involve over 65,000 troops and 7,800 different types of equipment and weapons, including over 200 missile launchers. The ministry also said that it intends to carry out test launches of ballistic and cruise missiles.
The drills come amid the breakdown of the last nuclear arms pact between Russia and the US earlier this year. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Moscow has repeatedly made comments regarding its nuclear arsenal and threatened to use it.
