In a show of force following North Korea’s latest missile launch, the United States conducted a joint air drill with South Korea and Japan on April 13, deploying a long-range B-1B bomber, according to South Korea’s military.

The exercise came in response to North Korea’s test of its new Hwasong-19 intercontinental ballistic missile on April 10. The missile, which flew higher and remained airborne longer than any of the North’s previous launches, is designed to reach the US mainland. Leader Kim Jong Un described the launch as "an appropriate military action" in response to perceived threats from outside powers.

The escalation highlights the rising tensions between nuclear-armed nations, while global security faces growing challenges. Despite these threats, only nine countries possess nuclear weapons, yet their combined stockpile exceeds 13,000—more than enough to bring about catastrophic destruction.
