The final supermoon of 2025 will peak on December 4, at 6:14 pm ET, when December’s “cold moon” reaches its closest point to Earth, NASA scientists say. The moon appeared full on December 3 and will appear full again on December 5, marking the last in a run of three consecutive supermoons this year.
Known as the cold moon for its proximity to the winter solstice on December 21, the event also coincides with anniversaries of Apollo 8 and Apollo 17, and comes as NASA prepares for the Artemis II crewed flyby of the moon in early 2026.
