The meeting will be Donald Trump's first with a foreign leader since starting his second term, something Benjamin Netanyahu called "testimony to the strength of the Israeli-American alliance."
Qatar's Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said on February 2 that there are "no clear details" on when talks will begin, but hopes for progress soon, while Hamas has not commented on the deadline.
Since the ceasefire began on January 19, Hamas and its allies have released 18 hostages held in Gaza. In return, Israel has freed 583 Palestinians, including some serving life sentences for serious crimes, as well as many children detained without public charges or trial. These exchanges are part of the ceasefire deal reached between Israel and Hamas, following the escalation of violence that began with Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. The attack resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people, with 251 taken hostage. In response, Israel launched a military offensive in Gaza, which has since led to over 46,500 deaths.
