The Netherlands’ Central Bank (DNB) has advised Dutch citizens ensure they have enough cash to last them in case of emergency; for instance, if the country’s payment system becomes inoperative. More specifically, the DNB suggests that citizens should keep €70 per adult and €30 per child, which should be enough to cover the essentials for 72 hours.
Authorities stated the measure might prove to be vital amid current geopolitical tensions and cyber security threats.
"Think of a power failure, a technical disruption at your bank or the Wi-Fi going down. Then you might not be able to pay the way you are used to. But paying with cash is almost always possible," the advisory said.
