Crisis

Sweden’s central bank has urged citizens to keep a week’s worth of cash at home to ensure they can purchase food, medicine, and other essentials in the event of war or another major crisis. Authorities recommended that every adult hold at least 1,000 kronor (about US$110) in cash, while also maintaining bank cards from multiple lenders and access to the local digital payment service Swish.

The advice is part of broader efforts by Swedish authorities to prepare the population for potential military or cyber attacks amid heightened regional tensions, particularly from Russia and Iran. Similar recommendations have already been issued by authorities of neighboring Finland and Norway.
