At least eight people were injured, some with burns, after a man attacked a Jewish community gathering in Boulder, Colorado, using a makeshift flamethrower and incendiary devices. The suspect, identified by the FBI as 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman, reportedly shouted “Free Palestine” during the assault, which targeted a group advocating for Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
The victims, ranging in age from 52 to 88, were attending a weekly vigil when the attack occurred on June 1, coinciding with the start of the Jewish holiday of Shavuot. Soliman was arrested at the scene. Authorities say he is expected to face federal charges, as the incident is being investigated as an act of terrorism.
The attack comes just over a week after another US attack, where a man shouting pro-Palestinian slogans fatally shot two Israeli embassy staffers outside a Jewish museum in Washington, D.C.
No one expects a terrorist attack. We see these horrifying crises play out on the news, but it's hard to imagine one happening in your own community. While we hope that we'll never have to deal with such a scenario, it's always best to be prepared for an emergency.
