Neutrogena has recalled select makeup remover wipes after detecting the rare bacterium Pluralibacter gergoviae, which is resistant to typical preservatives. The Class II recall by parent company Kenvue Brands affects products distributed in Texas, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. While serious health risks are considered unlikely for most users, those with weakened immune systems may face higher danger.

While product recalls are routine—cars, for example, have been pulled from the market since as early as 1973—the scale and nature of this case underscore the importance of swift regulatory action and consumer vigilance.
