Honda is recalling nearly 99,000 vehicles in the United States over a defect that could affect airbag deployment during a crash. According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall notice published on May 21, the issue involves a front passenger seat weight sensor that may crack and short-circuit.
The recall affects certain Honda and Acura vehicles from model years 2016 through 2026, including models such as the Accord, Civic, CR-V, Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline, Acura TLX, RDX, and MDX. If the sensor malfunctions, it could incorrectly classify a passenger and cause an airbag to deploy when it should not, increasing the risk of injury.
Dealers will replace the sensor free of charge, and owner notification letters are expected to be mailed starting July 6, 2026. No crashes or injuries related to the defect were noted in the recall notice.
Essentially, a recall is a request from a manufacturer to return or repair a product after safety issues or defects are discovered. And there have been many in recent history.
