On February 19, President Donald Trump announced that he’s directing the Pentagon and other government agencies to release files and all relevant information connected to "alien and extraterrestrial life," as well as unidentified flying objects (commonly known as "UFOs").
Trump also accused former President Barack Obama of disclosing "classified information," referring to the remarks Obama made during a podcast interview, in which he implied that aliens could be real. Speaking to the media aboard Air Force One, Trump said he doesn’t know "if they're real or not," later suggesting that declassifying the information might get the former president "out of trouble."
Indeed, the matter of extraterrestrial life and its potential contact with Earth continues to be of much interest to the general public. The US government receives dozens of UFO reports every month and, while many of these turn out to be innocuous (everything from drones in the area to errant trash), around 2-4% of them cannot be explained. Given Trump’s recent comments, it is possible that US government agencies might have answers to one of humanity’s most burning questions: is there other life in the universe besides us?
