A major water shortage in Ecuador’s capital, Quito, has left an estimated 400,000 people without reliable access to drinking water, marking the city’s most severe supply disruption in decades. The crisis was triggered by a landslide that damaged a key pipeline serving southern districts of the city.

According to CNN, emergency crews have been working to remove debris and distribute water to the six most affected zones, while repairs are underway. The shortage has upended daily routines, prompting long lines at water distribution points and raising public concern.

Tensions have emerged between local and national officials over the response, with both sides trading blame for the lack of preparedness and coordination during the emergency.

As climate events and infrastructure strains increase globally, more cities may face similar disruptions. But what other cities are at risk? Click on to find out.
