Switzerland is set to hold a nationwide referendum on June 14 to make a decision on capping its population at 10 million by 2050. The idea was proposed by the right-wing, national-conservative Swiss People’s Party (SVP).
According to federal statistics, the population of Switzerland comprised 9.1 million people in 2025. Those born overseas made up around 30% of the country’s population.
