The enormous energy needs of artificial intelligence data centers had led to the prospect of mothballed nuclear power stations being recommissioned to meet electricity demand. But the idea has also prompted some tech experts to examine whether AI could actually run the operations of a nuclear power facility, an idea that has alarmed members of the anti-nuclear movement.
One of the facilities that is set for reactivation is the Three Mile Island nuclear generating station in Pennsylvania, scene of America's worst nuclear accident in 1979. So, is AI about to put more pressure on an already beleaguered industry?
Click through and find out why a near-meltdown is seen as no barrier to the advancement of AI.
