The ancient Irish Celts lived their lives in harmony with the cyclical, seasonal shifts of nature. The halfway point between the summer solstice and the autumn equinox, Lúnasa marked the beginning of the harvest season. After the 'lean month' of July, when most of the spring crops had begun to run out, the foods that would see people through the autumn began to ripen, welcoming in a bountiful harvest period.
