Australia's Kaylee McKeown recorded an Olympic best in the 100-meter backstroke, flying across the pool in 57.33 seconds. In the 200-meter backstroke, she also broke a 12-year-old record set by Missy Franklin at the London Games with a time of 2:03.73.

Team USA's Bobby Finke set a new world record in the men's 1,500-meter freestyle with a time of 14:30.67, outpacing Sun Yang of China's 14:31.02 from the London Games.

Team Australia in two swimming events -

Mollie O'Callaghan, Shayna Jack, Emma McKeon, and Meg Harris finished with a time of 3:28.92 at the 4x100-meter freestyle relay, breaking their 2020 Olympic record of 3:29.69. O'Callaghan later returned with Lani Pallister, Brianna Throssell, and Ariarne Titmus for the 4x200-meter relay, and finished in 7:38.08, breaking China's record from the previous Games.

Regan Smith, Lilly King, Gretchen Walsh, and Torri Huske won gold with a world record time in the 4x100-meter medley relay, finishing in 3:49.63. Walsh and Huske also broke a world record with Ryan Murphy and Nic Fink in the mixed 4x100-meter relay with a time of 3:37.43.
