President Donald Trump signed a proclamation on June 4 blocking entry to the US for nationals from 12 countries, citing national security concerns. The full ban applies to countries including Afghanistan, Myanmar (also known as Burma), Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

An additional seven nations will face partial travel restrictions—Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.

The proclamation includes exceptions for green card holders, current visa holders, and specific visa categories. It was issued not long after a reported anti-Semitic attack in Boulder, Colorado, where 12 people were injured during a march supporting Israeli hostages in Gaza. A White House official said the attack accelerated the president’s decision, though the policy had been under review for some time.

This proclamation is one of several tools the president can use to enact policy, alongside executive orders and memoranda. Since beginning his second term, Trump has signed 157 executive orders, 39 memoranda, and 63 proclamations, reflecting an aggressive push to advance his agenda.
