President Donald Trump has ordered the United States to withdraw from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the UN’s cultural agency. The State Department said on July 22 that the decision was based on UNESCO having “strayed from its founding mission” and supporting “woke, divisive” causes.
The move is part of a broader wave of executive orders signed in the opening days of Trump’s second term, including renewed withdrawals from the UN Human Rights Council and UNRWA, the agency for Palestinian refugees.
