Following Donald Trump's return to the White House, an interfaith service at the Washington National Cathedral drew attention. During his inaugural address on January 20, Trump called his presidency "divine intervention," referencing his alleged assassination attempt, stating, “I was saved by God to make America great again.” The next day, at the National Prayer Event, Episcopal Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde urged the president to show "mercy" toward vulnerable communities, a plea that was met with resistance from the administration.But this wasn't the first time a president clashed with a religious leader.
